Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving can be a challenging time for families who have recently experienced the death of a close relative.

If there is a bereaved child in your life, encourage him or her to create a special "Thank You" card to the deceased, and read it aloud at the table.

This opens the way for everyone to acknowledge the love and the sadness that is present. It reinforces the idea that it’s okay to miss someone and still enjoy the holiday that brings family and friends together.

We can then use Thanksgiving to acknowledge our gratitude for our most precious treasure, which is those we love,
both living and dead.
